Biggest single day gain for Sensex since July 20

Seems like a tennis match is being played. The other day, the ball was in bear's court. Today, it was a non-stop Bull run.Glad, the market recovered most of the Monday's losses.Bank of India was the biggest gainer today in my portfolio, successfully managed to recover the monday's fall

11/09/2006 --- A day to remember

In addition to the surprise 368 points crash on BSE sensex, this day is being remembered for 2 other events:
1> Satyagraha movement completes 100 years
2>5 years of 9/11 terrorist attack on the WTC

Carnage at Dalal Street

Surprise, Surprise !!!
A correction in the markets were expected. But, it will happen today !!! Atleast, I was one of those optimistic investors looking forward for that 12K figure. Hope, the market rises again tommorrow.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
The markets plunged on account of heavy selling in scrips across sectors. The fall was in line with Asian peers. It was the biggest single-day loss for Sensex and Nifty since July 17.

The Sensex closed at 11,550.69 down 368 points. The Nifty lost 105 points to close at 3,366.

The BSE Small Cap Index lost 3.4 per cent to close at 5,829.30.

The BSE Midcap Index lost 3.4 per cent to close at 4,871.46.

All the BSE sectoral indices closed in the negative terrain.

...............................................
Thanks to the ex-split rise of Hotel Leela, I managed to bail-out of this surprise crash. Wondering, what's up tommorrow!!! Is it buy time again ???
Although most of my securities have lost their gains.

India Heading For Another Emergency: Blogs Blocked

Arjun stirs up a hornet's nest- The Economic Times

Mr. Singh,
I remember shaking hands with you during the convocation at IITG last yr. You were talking of globalisations and development.
But is this current reservation move in central univs. justified in the current globalised world? We should stleast leave out the premier institutes of our country like IITs and IIMs from such politically inspired moves.
Th social upliftment is not propertionate to the percentage of reservations in higher educational institutes. But instead I think, the Minister must focus his energy on the primary and secondary education, to provide a level playing field to children of every class/society. After all its more than just levying 2% educational tax and mid-day meals.
A strong will independent is required instead of trying to gain mere political mileage

The basic infrastructure including telecom and power has shown rapid development in NE region, with the improvement in law and order as well. Guwahati and Shillong are aiming for metropolitan status.
Moreover, its a not popularly known fact that this is the only region in India having "Community Information Centers (CICs)" at every block level. These centers can be very well exploited to become the IT hubs and its reach to the people can propel the development from grass-root level.

Crash lands shock Oscar triumph

The Monday morning started with watching the live (& exclusuve) coverage of the Oscars (78th Annual Academy Awards) on Star Movies. The 4.5 hr show (from 5:30 AM - 10 AM IST) kept me glued on my Sofa watching the run-up to the best film. The song "IT'S HARD OUT HERE FOR A PIMP" FROM HUSTLE & FLOW" was superb and no doubt it won the best original score.Reese Witherspoon won the best actress. Her performance in "Walk the Line" was great although my personal favourite was Keira Knightly with her performance in Pride and Prejudice. Finally it was Crash leading the way. This time all the nominees including 'Good Night and Good Luck', 'Munich', 'Brokeback Mountain', 'Capote' are superb movies highlighting society and human values and courage.

Just moving about aimlessly in the world of Orkut, reading scraps of friends, just brings back the old IITG days. Alcher, Hockey, music, drama, Manthan, Spirit, Techniche and yes the study/classes in between.
I think of writing one day about that life and the beautiful NE.
